Magistrate Joe Knight is an Asheville, North Carolina magistrate. A North Carolina native, Magistrate Knight chose Asheville as the perfect place to raise his family and become an attorney.
A North Carolina Central University School of Law graduate, Magistrate Knight's long career as a family law and criminal defense attorney naturally evolved from a background in law enforcement, investigations and secondary education. Calm and centered, he creates an atmosphere of approachability, allowing people to be comfortable and forthcoming in their most trying situations.

Education
Magistrate Knight received his law degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2000. He received a masters degree in Near Eastern Studies from New York University in 1985 and an undergraduate degree in religion and philosophy from Mars Hill College in 1980, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He has engaged in a life long quest for education and his intellect and love for learning is quite apparent in his character.
Background
Prior to becoming an attorney, Magisrate Knight dedicated himself to the legal community first as a deputy sheriff and court security officer, then as an investigator for the District Attorney, conducting pretrial investigations and providing trial support. Following that, he worked for the Buncombe County Pretrial Release Office, interviewing inmates and compiling relevant information to assist judges in making decisions about pretrial release of defendants involved in the criminal justice system.
Also during this period, he was an adjunct instructor of Classics. He taught Hebrew and Humanities courses at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
